Tell me why, she questions
with a naive innocence
and all I do is stare back
into clear, lucid, laminated eyes
that fail to grasp the urgency of truth
while a frown masks the turmoil
brewing hesitancy inside a heart made of fire
and she waits for reason, an answer
but I cautiously step back from the crime scene
