A Star article on blogging quotes Indiana University dean, Blaise Cronin:
“One wonders for whom these hapless souls blog. Why do they choose to expose their unremarkable opinions, sententious drivel, and unedifying private lives to the potential gaze of total strangers?”
I suppose I can’t argue with that. And I’m too intellectually exhausted to bother trying anyway.
Any thoughts?
Why do I “choose to expose their unremarkable opinions, sententious drivel, and unedifying private lives to the potential gaze of total strangers?”
Because
I
can.
Why I choose to expose?
To offer the world a glimpse of the truth I carry inside of me in hopes of achieving a dream that is agonizingly close……yet so far away!
I blog because it’s a creative outlet to expel my thoughts and experiences.
I read strangers’ blogs because I find it really interesting to see what other people are going through on a regular basis.
oh, another thing… reading other people’s comments on your blog is also interesting.
Hajera, I posted on my blog as per your request
Oh, by the way:
In vain I have struggled. It will not do! My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you. In declaring myself thus I’m aware that I will be going expressly against the wishes of my family, my friends, and, I hardly need add, my own better judgement. The relative situation of our families makes any alliance between us a reprehensible connection. As a rational man I cannot but regard it as such myself, but it cannot be helped. Almost from the earliest moments, I have come to feel for you…a passionate admiration and regard, which despite my struggles, has overcome every rational objection. I beg you, most fervently, to relieve my suffering and consent to be my wife.
-Mr. Darcy, to Elizabeth.
Blogs can be and are for most of us, I think, creative outlets to express ourselves. But the question is why choose to blog rather than say, keep a journal. What could possibly be so important about my thoughts that I feel the need to air them on the world wide web for literally everyone to see?
I’m just playing devil’s advocate here since obviously this applies as much to me as to anyone else with a more or less personal blog
And Asmaa, are you trying to propose to me?!
Clearly the man doesn’t have a blog and is jealous because despite a deep desire to start one, he’s too afraid that we’ll all line up and point and laugh at his own drivel.
Speaking of “sententious drivel”! Geez Louise. Have you ever seen so many ten dollar words cramped so tightly together? The man, in addition to his deep-rooted insecurity, tries to impress us all by memorizing his thesaurus in the dead of night while the rest of us are blogging.
I live remarkably close to IU. Perhaps I should go visit the man, show him how to use Blogspot, and assure him that if he doesn’t let anyone else know he’s Blaise Cronin, the guy who insulted bloggers, everyone will love him just fine.
b, that was hilarious!
Assalam-oAlaikum!
hmm…Its just because I want to
I’m a mad scientist hoping to pass on my insanity on to other people!!I’ll brainwash them all and soon zombies will roam on this earth
*muaaaahhaaaa*
